Biography

James M. Farrell, Esquire, is a director and shareholder of Farrell Thurman & Flammer, P.C. His area of practice encompasses the entire range of employment law and traditional labor law. He represents both employers and individuals across the country. He has appeared before state and federal courts, state human rights agencies, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, wage and hour agencies, arbitration forums, and other state and federal agencies. Mr. Farrell also has extensive experience as chief spokesperson for employers in collective bargaining and in the development of objectives and strategies.

A significant portion of his practice focuses on providing advice and guidance to clients in navigating workplace decisions with a view toward effectively addressing clients' business needs while minimizing or eliminating liability exposure. Such matters include employee discipline and termination, employee evaluations, compensation, job restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, company downsizing and closings, reduction in force, harassment investigations, independent contractors, restrictive covenants, confidentiality agreements, union organizing, and employment policies and procedures. He also conducts employee management training in numerous areas and has drafted many employee handbooks and employment policies.

Mr. Farrell has taught seminars at the Rutgers Center for Management Development on the Equal Pay Act and Gender Discrimination and a full course on Human Resources and Compensation Administration at Rutgers University in conjunction with the Wharton School. He is a former member of the New Jersey State Investment Council. Before going into private practice in 1987, he was Corporate Director of Labor Relations at Pan American World Airways, Inc. He is a graduate of St. John's University School of Law.
